2023 Girls in Aviation Day Singapore
For our third Annual Girls In Aviation Day #GIAD23 event on 21 October 2023 we plan to expand to a larger audience of 300 girls aged between 8 – 17-year-olds. Giving them access to STEM related activities and challenges, Career path possibilities, Skills building, inspiring them with stories from female role models in aviation to assist the girls to see the possibilities for them to pursue a career in aviation. Background
Girls in Aviation Day, a day intended to interest girls aged 8 to 17 years old to pursue careers related to Aviation. This annual event was launched in 2015 by Women in Aviation International.
WAI SG celebrated its first Girls in Aviation Day Singapore on 25th September 2021 held at Wings over Asia Flying Club on Seletar Airport. This was attended by 30 girls aged 12-17years. Limited to 30 seats due to covid restrictions at that time. It was a half day event with 6 STEM based activities focusing on Aviation. The event was supported by many organizations such as RSAF, DNATA, AirAsia, AkzoNobel, Airbus, Wings Over Asia, Textron Aviation, Boeing, Bell Helicopter, APAC Aviation Partner and Consulting Pte Ltd, Amadeus, HFW and SITA.
On 15th October 2022, we held our second Girls in Aviation Day at the Singapore Aviation Academy with Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore which was attended by approx 130 girls aged 8-17 years, their parents and 18 supporting organizations Airbus, Boeing, ST Engineering, Aercap, Amadeus, Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, Ramco, Textron Aviation, Pratt & Whitney, Nanyang Technological University, SIA Engineering company, DNATA, GE Aerospace, Wings Over Asia, Bell Helicopters, Rolls Royce, Just Fly It including ISTAT. We were extremely pleased to hear from the girls that they had great fun, enjoyed the half day program also learned many new facts about aviation from a wide range of hands-on, educational activities i.e., Aviation and Aerospace Journey, DIY Aero plane, drones and aero plane Aerodynamics, flight Simulator and other STEM activities.
